While doing the research for this paper I found many reasons to be for and against this type of medical research. The main reason I am for this is it allows for the continuous research and development of new therapies and possible cures for the many diseases the plague our country today and in the future.
This topic has been highly debated for many years and is still one of the most talked about topics in medical research today. It ask the ethical question should we allow the research to prevent alleviate the suffering or should we respect the value of human life. Although I highly value the life of another human I cannot stand by and let millions of people suffer when there is a possible way to treat and alleviate …show more content…
Does the embryo have full moral status from fertilization onwards: If you feel that since it has not implanted into the uterus and does not have any psychological, emotional or physical properties then it would seem that you are for this type of research? If on the other hand you feel that a fertilized egg is a human from conception than it is likely that you are against this. Another point to consider is the fact that there is a cut-off point of 14 days after fertilization that some people feel that the embryo has no central nervous system and therefore no senses. In this aspect if we can take organs from a person that has been declared brain dead and use them for transplants, then we can also use hundred-cell embryos that have no nervous system. An embryo in the earliest stages is not clearly defined as an …show more content…
However it can place over 400,000 frozen embryos in clinics all over this country and leave them abandoned for years and years to come. Why not let the doctors take these frozen embryos and due the research needed to help with the new therapies and cures that they can come up with now and in the future instead of deciding to take them and thaw them and leave them for dead somewhere since they are unclaimed. This to me personally is a crime in itself. They want to talk about how stem cell research is killing embryos yet they are willing to kill thousands of them at one time due to funding issues instead of allowing for the medical research that could possibly cure millions of people now and in the future. So in my own personal opinion I feel that not only is stem cell research a valuable tool in the medical field it is also greatly needed to help with the many types of research done on a daily basis to improve
