Nowadays, the debate about wearing school uniforms continued to bring a lot of controversies among parents and educators. But to begin with, school uniforms are defined as an outfit- a set of standardized clothes. Traditionally, school uniforms were common in private school and the usage of it in the USA is slowly finding his way into public school as well. In recent years, however, an increasing number of public school districts have implemented a school uniform policy and formed the basis of a school’s dress code. The way they dressed could positively impact their appearances. In addition, students feel like team players and they have a sense of togetherness. Students would not be as focused on how they look and even bully each other about their dressing style. Wearing of school uniforms prevents students from being distracted by their appearance. “Interest in a uniform policy or dress code is based on a desire by school staff and parents to focus student attention on learning rather than diverting attention to appearance” (Kim, DeLong, and LaBat, 2001). It is really means that, students would put more efforts into their studies, this could create a climate of discipline, respect, and improves safety by eliminating gang clothing or symbols. Theft of items such as expensive jackets or sneakers would probably decrease and tardiness in class due to clothing issues would also decrease with the elimination of many choices. School uniforms prevents gang students from wearing gang clothes.
