The Debate on Gun Control
Gun control has been a controversial topic in politics for years. Just like many other highly controversial topics, citizens in the United States are either all for gun control or 100 percent against it. There does not seem to be any end in sight for the fight on gun control. Firearm laws are always a big issue in politics because some people think if they were to take away firearms then the crime rate would go down. They also believe the amount of “gun deaths” would go down. This topic usually surfaces on news channels right after a shooting has occurred. Since it is stated in the second amendment, “the right of people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” This means every time a bill gets to the supreme court they must rule the bill “unconstitutional.”
Gun control is against the Constitution of the United States. Gun control is against what the founding fathers wanted, and the American people have the right to defend themselves. The other side of the argument is if the government were to take away every gun, then nobody could …show more content…

Wile gun ownership doubled in the twentieth century, the murder rate decreased” (ProCon.org). This quote explains that when more citizens had guns the murder rate had gone down. The article also mentions that more gun laws would reduce gun deaths. This is believed to be true due to the fact that 52.2% of gun deaths are due to suicide. The term “gun deaths” is a broad term. So yes the amount of “gun deaths” may go down if the United States had more gun control laws, but that does not mean the homicide rate would decrease. The author organizes the information in the article wonderfully. The article is easy to read and
