Against Genetically Modified Foods

Improved Essays
Im going against genetically modified foods because you never know what can happen to your body. When food is genetically modified, its genes are changed by scientists to produce new traits that farmers and consumers want from their food. For example, with genetic modification, a plant that is eaten by a certain type of insect could be changed in such a way that it tastes bad or is even dangerous to that insect. With genetic engineering, food items can become more resistant to disease and pests, last longer on store shelves, or have higher nutritional value per serving. Most scientific organizations say that genetically modified foods are safe, but some people are concerned that the long-term effects are still unknown.

Other people are concerned that a lack of regulation exposes people to genetically modified foods without their knowledge, minimizing the independence of the consumer. Many of the foods that are already common in our diet are obtained from plant varieties that were developed using conventional genetic techniques of breeding and selection. Hybrid corn, nectarines which are genetically altered peaches, and tangelos which are a genetic hybrid of a tangerine and grapefruit are all examples of such breeding and selection. Bioengineered foods and food ingredients including food additives must adhere to the same standards of safety under the act that apply to their conventional counterparts. This means that these products must be as safe as the traditional foods in the market.

Im going against genetically modified foods because threw any type of food including genetically modified food you can either catch a disease or a virus.Genetically modified foods are just what the name implies. in the U.S. they argue against any labeling here on the grounds that it would imply genetically modified foods are different. As it goes with many dangerous, yet commonly consumed products that we may never know what we could be eating. And that's why I refused to eat any genetically modified food or what ever I don't know what im

In “The Threats from Genetically Modified Foods”, Robin Mather effectively brings awareness to the American public of the harmful side effects of genetically modified (GM) foods. She shares that genetically modified foods are foods with an altered genetic make-up. This alteration has lead them to be banned in several countries. However, in the United States, GM foods are not strictly regulated and, therefore, not required to be labeled. Also, the pesticides used in genetically modified foods yield harmful side effects in animals and humans.…

To be against genetically modified organisms, is being against the advancement of technology. Over the course of all history many ideas have been shut down before they’ve even seen the light of day, and unfortunately that could be the case for gmo’s. 88% of U.S. scientists say genetically modified foods are safe to eat, and only 37% of Americans agree. Rationally, GMO crops aren't inherently different from other breeding techniques that people already trust—so even though we can't know with 100% certainty that the plants won't have negative effects, there's also no reason to think that they will (Peters). People tend to give them a bad rap simply because they don’t further research them.…

GM foods have a negative connotation; people think that eating something that has been modified is going to poison their body. Not only that, but most of the American public believes that in doing this, humans are playing god, and have gone too far. However, none of this is true. So far, none of the GM food currently on the market has any ill-effects on humans.…

There seems to be three main arguments against genetically modified foods (GMO), they don't reproduce, we don't know if our body recognizes it, and high production cost. Even tho genetically modified foods are made to be more protected against farm pesticide and diseases; are they good for our body?. Genetically modified foods are not able to reproduce for example, once a GMO seed is planted it will not produce anymore seeds for farmers to reproduce more fruits. farmers are forced to go buy more GMO seeds, so economically farmers are loosing money faster then there making it.…
