Treatment in factory farms depends on the animal. Chickens are considered to be the worst treated. 260 million male chicks are killed yearly because they are considered useless since they will not produce eggs. Because they are not protected under federal law, chickens do not have to be sedated before slaughter. This means many times these chicks are ground up while they are still living. When talking about cage free animals, animals are put in poorly ventilated, windowless buildings. They are compacted extremely close leaving them barely any room to move. This increases ammonia driven diseases like respiratory problems. Free range animals are given small outdoor space with one door. Animals struggle to enter these animals as they are so small. Many industries paint the image that animals are left to range free in the outdoors but, this could not be further from the truth (¨Factory Farming¨). Groups like ASPCA, PETA and Farm Sanctuary are fighting to expose factory conditions and make them better. Not only that but movies like Food, Inc have surfaced what factory farm production really looks like. While laws are limited, there are protections for cows, pigs, goats and sheep so they can not be conscious for slaughter. These animals also must be let out during transport every 24 hours (¨Factory Farms¨). The fight to banish inhumane treatment in factory farms is getting stronger
