Should the United States Continue Its Use of Drone Strikes Abroad? Remotely-controlled aircraft, otherwise known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones can be equipped with bombs and missiles for attack missions. The original drone, the MQ-1 Predator and the upgraded MQ-9 Reaper are the two most commonly used unmanned aerial vehicles. They are cherished for their ability to fly thousands of feet over a target for long durations of time and relay high-resolution, live reconnaissance. In September of 2000, lobbying began to weaponize the MQ-1 (Predator) drone with air-to-ground missiles for use as a battlefield weapon.…

The Drone Phenomenon Glenn Greenwald uses a 2012 New Stanford/NYU study on drone usage by the American government to justify his article, claiming that the presence of drones “terrorizes men, women, and children, giving rise to anxiety and psychological trauma among civilian communities” (Greenwald 2012). Greenwald defines those affected by America’s drone campaign as systematically terrorized. This drone campaign is a result of a one-day attack on America that now has started a “never-ending” operation of violence, which, according to Greenwald, is only increasing aggression toward the U.S. He also expresses outrage toward the term “militants” and the way the term is loosely thrown around by journalists. Journalists use “militants” to describe…

The Ethics surrounding drone warfare has been a controversial debate that has not yet captured the full attention of the public in the west. The main arguments for using drone warfare has been about saving lives and cost, but such argument pales in comparison to the arguments against it. To examine the counter arguments of why drone warfare is ethically wrong, we must look at the political stance of the governments using drone warfare, the society’s responsibility, the ethics of the way that the drone strikes are conducted, the effectiveness of drone warfare and the international irresponsibility and unethical nature of drone strikes. Drone warfare saves the lives of soldiers by placing them out of harms way; this is one of the arguments for…

These aircrafts that fly around with no human guiding its direction is not that safe to be trying to target a terrorist. However, the government uses drones to monitor ranches and patrol boarders, police officials are in the mist of using drones for surveillance, and then there an Attorney General who believes it’s not illegal for the government to use armed drones to kill terror suspects, even US citizens on US soil. Unfortunately, while the United State officials continue to argue over the uses of these unmanned aircraft and the fact that they may or may not caused any civilian strategies there’s a different claim from The Bureau of Investigative Journalism who reports from June 2004 through mid-September 2012, that drone strikes killed thousands of innocent people in other countries who were not terrorist, many of the killed were civilians, including children (NYU,…

The argument with drone strikes has become more evident in the past years, with ISIS being on the rise for a global superpower. While many politicians advocate for a diplomatic solution to this problem, many recent events that were claimed to be by ISIS have lead to a more aggressive view on drone strikes. Therefore, it seems to be logical and the only way for militaries to suppress ISIS and other terrorist organizations. As terrorism is spread throughout our world, and more people are subjected to these conditions, they will develop to be what they have seen. It is shrewd to let these individuals grow up to be terrorist leaders, which is why drone strikes need to be implemented in order to take out recruiters and trainers.…
