The first time someone suggested that I should become a teacher I was both surprised and skeptical. But after giving the suggestion some thought, I came to realize that in many ways God had already been preparing me to teach long before anyone had even made such a suggestion. Throughout my years in school, God had provided me with numerous experiences and mentors that helped prepare me to embrace God’s calling for me to become a distinctly Christian agriculture educator with unique personal qualities and high expectations for the future. During my high school career, I was blessed with several mentors who encouraged and supported me in my goal of becoming and Ag teacher. Perhaps the most influential person was my high school Ag teacher. After watching him give lectures, prepare students for contests, and lead discussions for four years, I began to …show more content…
However, distinctive Christian teaching should not only reflect our faith in God but also serve as a beckon pointing out students to the creator as we teach them about his creation. As a Ag teacher, I must view my students as image bearers of God and consciously work to help unfold my students gifts by equipping them to pursue God’s purpose for their lives. This goal will remain unchanged whether or not I teach in a public or Christian school. I may not always be able to be vocal about my faith but I can be truthful about positive and negative aspects of the agriculture industry and ask students to wrestle with ethical questions and moral issues. I can intently listen to my students’ views and graciously except their differences from my own. I can show mercy and compassion to my students and demonstrate humility when I make mistakes and need their forgiveness. For me, distinct Christian teaching is what I hope are the words used to describe what goes on in my

Any rich story weaves in symbolism and foreshadowing. This enhances the meaning of the narrative, gives the audience clues to the future, and sets the stage for multiple themes. The drama of the Bible checks all of these boxes and then some. Although there are many characters in the first formative years of Israel’s existence, the character of Joshua, leads Israel into a temporary Promised Land, which foreshadows the role that Jesus plays in the unfolding narrative. My passion to be a teacher in the Catholic school system has started a long time ago when I decided the teaching profession was for me. I was just coming out of my Catholic high school and I had made a decision to take a Bachelor of Health Science Degree, in physical education and biology with the end goal to become a high school teacher. It was during this time when I noticed myself asking for help a lot and depending on God’s plan to determine my success. Each person has his or her individual path to follow, no two paths are exactly the same; but, every now and then, paths interweave and people construct bonds with each other. In the case of Sonny and his brother, the narrator, in James Baldwin’s short story, “Sonny’s Blues”, their paths were parallel with one another until they grew up. Sonny left the slums of Harlem, aspiring to become a musician, while his brother settled in Harlem and became a teacher. Although the narrator and his brother ended up with completely different lives, the narrator being a family man with a teaching job and Sonny, an ex-convict playing jazz at a club, are ironically more similar than they are portrayed.…

His church has built playgrounds, painted buildings, funded literacy efforts, supplied clothing and school supplies, provided tutoring, beds and food. While his congregation members don’t talk about their faith it can be seen in their…

There are many articles that I have read over the last few weeks, but two in particular really challenged my thinking and philosophy in regards to education. In the article, “Edwin & Phyllis,” Lynn Fendler engages her readers with a meaningful dialogue between an experienced teacher and a prospective educator, debunking some of the more traditional responses that young, perspective teachers might give for wanting to become educators. The truth is that teaching can be anything but glamorous and oftentimes straddles the fine line between causing more harm then the good that it seeks to accomplish in the life of a child. Prospective teachers must not only think about what motivates them in wanting to become educators, but what type of teachers…

Most people imagine a teacher as someone who is in their late 30’s or older teaching in a classroom. Many lessons are taught in the classroom, but many more lessons are taught outside of the classroom. My cousin Keisha and her daughter, KaLeiah, have been the greatest teachers I ever have had in my life. KaLeiah is a three-year old, a tall, lean, energetic little girl with beautiful light brown skin, just like her mother. She has dark black afro hair, and mix of shades of brown eyes, which has filled me with the will to open my heart and mind to the world.…
