In the Aftermath of World War 2 the Soviet army controlled Berlin and to show that they are in control the Red army raised the red flag over the Reichstag to show to the German's that they have lost and that the Allies have defeated them. The picture of the flag rising on the Reichstag became instantaneously recognized as the defeat of Nazi Germany. The picture symbolizes how much scarifies that the people in Europe have to go through and the location of the picture also shows the destructive nature of war and also to commemorate the sacrifices that the country went through. As the Soviet army was shocked in the attack Hitler's forces has mange to take over huge swath of the land from Leningrad (St. Petersburg) to the Caucuses region.(Bafonte) As Hitler's troops were taking over Soviet territory with ease, Stalin was trying to regroup his forces for a counteroffensive attack. Then as Hitler's troops ravage the country, winter came in and in luck of time as Hitler Troops where only a couple kilometres away from Moscow so the mighty Russian winter save the Soviet Union. As the Soviet troops fought back against the German and it was bloody counteroffensive as the German's massacred and burn everything down so the land was useless for the Russian. Then in Stalingrad (Volgograd) a battle ensured and it was the turning point of the war as the German's surrender their and ever since the surrender the Russian has manage to push the German out of their territory and in to German territory. But to the people in Russia the picture symbolizes victory, but also grief as the country has lost so much people as "Russia has lost more than 11 million troops and lost over 20 million innocent civilian"( Bofonte). While to other it was time to celebrate as the war is finally over as they see the Soviet flag flying above the Reichstag which is the German parliament meaning they won and that the war is over for them as you can see the soldier's who are raising the flag are happy. While to the Jews the picture symbolizes relieve since they were persecuted under the Nazi government through concentration camps and systematic killings for them it is a relief as they have survive their ordeal. While to other is symbolizes hope as they can have a peaceful future and also that history would not be repeated and that the holocaust can teach a world a lesson of peace and tolerance, it symbolizes hope as the people can finally go back home and hope that their family members have survived the ordeal. To the Allies the picture also symbolises relief as it mean they can go home and that the Evil German would stop killing people innocently people and that the racist government would end in Europe. While to the European like the Polish and the French the picture symbolize freedom as they were invaded and occupied by the hated German
