Many of society’s views of afterlife have changed after Inferno’s publication. Based on Inferno, some people began to change their opinion on who, or what, is actually in charge of Hell. Lorenzo Ghiberti was motivated after he read Inferno as he says “Dante’s descriptions help me design buildings that would belong in the time period of the characters” (Nixon 14). Lorenzo Ghiberti, who built the Florence Baptistery, in San Giovanni, was motivated after he read Inferno, to add the finishing details and updates to the building (Nixon 14). The front of the Florence Baptistery has statues of ancient Greek mythology characters and animals, that look like the ones described in Inferno. Ancient temples often represent the descriptions that Dante gives in Inferno. Most museums have statues of ancient Greek figures for display such as, “The Metropolitan Museum, located in New York, has a gallery based specifically on Greek statues” (Nixon 14). The Metropolitan Museum contains more than 17,000 works, and contains art from multiple different cultures. The Greek galleries have hundreds of classical art pieces, including different complex structures (Nixon 14).
