After School Resource Center Research Paper

Today’s parents face a great challenge with after school resources for their children. In today’s society parents are working longer hours forcing their children to be left unattended or left with family or friends. These children could use a safe environment that could offer homework assistance, physical activities and nutritional education. Creating an after school resource center would benefit individuals in homework assistance, learning a new task, or learning to stay physically active. The youth in Monroe County need an after school assistance program where they could go and receive valuable help. By getting homework assistance and completing their assignment would offer more valuable family time at night. The mentors could engage with the individual on studying for future tests, completing school projects or just enjoy making a new friendship. Education is such a strong aspect in our community. By attending the after school program, the individual could be taught fun ways on how to stay active throughout their childhood, teenage and adult years. From a personal aspect, I know how it feels to be overweight. I have dealt my whole life fighting with weight issues, especially throughout my childhood. It is very disheartening to be sitting in a classroom while classmates stare or whisper because you are bigger and not the normal “skinny”. These kinds of daily actions can make a person feel insecure, self-conscious, or depressed. The after school program could teach an individual ways to make walking, running, or even getting up and moving fun for the youth in Monroe County. By creating this exercise program, children can gain self-confidence and be proud of what they are accomplishing. Our community is growing in ways to join as a group and exercise
