Many people may keep their love secret because society may disapprove of that love and the consequences that being in love can have on the person or couple. An example of Prufrock giving up on himself is “I grow old… I grow old… I shall wear the bottom of my trousers rolled.” When Prufrock repeats words it helps to prove the point that he is going to grow old, and also never going to be in a relationship. When the Jonathan Safran Foer writes, “After everything it’s like nothing. I have always never been here. What a shame it wasn’t easy. What a waste of what? What a joke,” Jonathan Safran Foer choses words such as “like.” Jonathan Safran Foer also asks a question which was not meant to be answered. When he used this in his writing it helped to emphasize the point that his relationship had died down. Someone may have a hard time finding love if it arouses anxiety presented when Firestone writes, “Because the negative reaction to positive events occurs without conscious awareness, individuals respond without understanding what caused them to react. They rationalize the situation by finding fault with or blaming others, particularly those closest to them.” Firestone is presenting an idea which is common in a very fair, detached tone, which allows the reader to think about love in a more objective way.
