Courage comes in all sorts of ways. It’s the ability of doing something that most likely will come with risks. Over the past few weeks we all have heard the word “courage.” We hear these stories about people risking their life to save someone else. To me, that is the definition of courage. If you are willing to give up or sacrifice something for someone you should be considered a courageous person. A few examples of courageous people could be John Smith, William Bradford, and the women and children of this time period. John Smith would be a great example of courage. He protected other in any way possible, he would protect people from the shots that were being fired and demanded they did not return back out until it was over. John was taken into hostage and became a prisoner, whole a prisoner he was tortured. He had been a prisoner and escapes many times. He had been shot at multiple times, but never ended up actually getting shot, the arrows had just nearly missed him. Later on he then saved Pocahontas. …show more content…
Way back then they didn’t have much of anything. So knowing that John gave up his body to save others is courage. He stepped up to try and make other people lives better when his wasn’t the greatest. William is the definition of courage as well; he knew what he was able to do because of his experience in his job. He wanted to make sure everyone got to the places they were traveling to safely. He took this in his hand without thinking about it. I would say the women and children are the most courageous because they people were young or either pregnant can they still chose to do something very risky. Courage comes in all sorts of way, there isn’t just one definition of this

Courage can define someone. Atticus Finch, from Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird, explains courage as this: “... Instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand, it's when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what.” Atticus wanted his children to understand that courage is standing up for what they believe and still doing things even if there is little possibility of success. Civil rights leader, John Lewis, fought hard for segregated people’s rights throughout the U.S. John Lewis matches Atticus’s definition of courage because despite injury and criticism, Lewis stood courageous for what he believed and spoke out for his people, knowing it could possibly lead to imprisonment or death, discerning he was “licked before he began.” John Lewis fought courageously for human rights in the USA for the black culture, who were strongly discriminated.…
