It is well known that railroads played a major role in the empire-building process in Afro-Eurasia between 1860 and 1918. During this time, the railroads varied extents, which depended on the regions. These railroads were used in different regions which included Europe and North America, where industrialization was already in progress. The railroads were able to advance the process of empire building by making it possible to move goods, troops, and settlers across the territories in an efficient way. The creation of railroads authorized the expansion of empires through economic development and civilization in the colonial territories.

The creation of railroads was important for many colonies in order to grow economically. This document features the construction and use of the Trans-Siberian railroad. The event that this document presents is after the construction of the Great Wall of China (Doc 5). Due to the success of the Great Wall of China, Russia ultimately decides to create something that will enable their influence in the Far West. Which was the Trans-Siberian Railroad; the railroad ultimately increased their influence like they had hoped it would and, although it was unable to move an immense amount of soldiers straight away, it was enough to strengthen Russia over time.
