This became known as the Maji Maji rebellion and over 20 different ethnic groups all fought for their freedom. The people fighting believed that God ordained the war and that their ancestors would come back and help them fight. The fighters then decided to attack a German machine-gun post. Usually you would think that that is not a good idea unless you have guns. That was very true considering they only had spears but they thought they could win because they had the magic water on their side. Obviously the result ended up being that the resisters lost and the Germans recorded 75,000 of them dead. That number doubled in how many resisters were killed in the famine afterwards. The Germans were so shocked that they decided to make reforms that appealed to the Africans. These reforms consisted of making Africa become colonized. In the end, the reason these movements didn't work is because of how superior Europe was compared to Africa.
Paternalism and Social Darwinism are similar for a couple reasons. Paternalism is a policy that the Europeans used to kind of be the parent of people by giving them what they need but not giving them the rights
