African Americans have struggled and overcame a lot of difficulties as time has process. From slavery and being free, voting rights, segregation and equal citizenship these outcomes has been a journey for black Americans. Some people failed to realize that blacks themselves had their own racial issue within United States. Black people suffer mainly from a term called color complex. “In short “color complex is a psychological fixation about color and features that leads blacks to discrimination against each other (Russell/Wilson 2). By the 1900 over eighty percent of students in school were either bi -racial or had lighter skin. Even though darker blacks were denied their education that still did not stop them from trying. There was one college that accepted darker completion skin and that was Tuskegee Institute of Alabama which Booker T. Washington founded for all blacks in 1881. In reality the rationales and beliefs that was associated with the intra racial discrimination is that blacks who were lighter had more power, privilege, and were more accepted by society than a darker completion person. Black people should be able to love the skin they in instead of fighting who they are weather their dark skinned or light. According to the one percent drop rule if you have any black in your blood you were and will always be consider black. I personally do not see why blacks are so ignorant towards each when it comes down to colorism within the race. Black people need to really start encouraging and helping each other out by being better leaders and excepting towards one another and they could overcome a lot of intra racial and bias issues. As of 2015 light skin versus dark skinned still exists but it has really changed trensmedously compare to the nine ten hundreds. For example, the comb and bag test does not longer apply to churches in the black churches and they are more excepting of those who are darker and do not have the best of hair. More blacks are able to proceed an educated without being denied access to an all-black college and more black are moving up in higher job positions. Black is beautiful and people in general should love their blacks roots and the heritage they come
