The Constitution did not state anything having to deal with equality for the people they governed. African Americans were subject to segregation and being denied service just on the judgements of their skin color. After the Civil War, there was a great amount of constitutional amendments that were passed in order to have a common ground on the equality of which they will allow for the African Americans to have within America. Though these laws did not protect those African Americans from discrimination with owners of businesses, theatres, and other facilities. The Jim Crow systems targeted the issues with the segregation that whites have put upon blacks such as restrooms, schools, theatres, and other public facilities. The government had that they were giving African Americans equality but in reality, there was still a feel of inequality that was mostly in the Southern states. Civil rights is another way of implying good government. That the government will then help and protect individuals from discrimination under the law and allow individuals to have equal rights as everyone else within the country. We have not come close to achieving what the Constitution expresses because we fall short every time an issue goes through the system within the government. Our opinions and own beliefs influence us and it challenges the civil right and liberties that have been ever changing throughout the course of time. The government is questioned all the time on whether they can follow what the Constitution states about our civil rights.
