In today’s society there, is this perception that Caucasians are the only individuals who have helped America reach its full potential. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Caucasians are not the only race that has contributed to the betterment of the United States of America. There are many other cultural groups that deserve to be acknowledged for the advancement of the country such as African Americans. African Americans have made numerous contributions to the development of America over the past years and are continuing to assist with the evolution of America. As stated By U.S. Senator Benjamin L. Cardin, “From Rosa Parks to The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Marylanders Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass, these accomplished men and women have become strong role models for our nation” this is just a small number of those that have helped make this country what it is today. Without African Americans, America would not be considered the greatest country in the world.
One way that African Americans played a role in the development of the country was by participating in both the American Revolutionary war and the war of 1812. African American slaves helped America gain its independence. In From Slavery to Freedom By John Hope Franklin, it states “out of the 200,000 soldiers approximately 5,000 who fought in the Revolution war were African Americans.” Not only did The African American soldiers fight in every part of the war, they also fought in every condition…
