According to the methodology section in this research article, one-hundred and twenty eight individuals participated in this study. The measures included the digital span testing, Cultural Mistrust, Inventory, total SCID, false beliefs and perceptions, total chart symptoms and the Fenigstein Paranoia Scale. The participants were screened by one of two African American clinical psychologist. The interviewers administered self-report instruments including measures of paranoia, substance abuse, and self-esteem. The interviewers asked participants information regarding diagnoses, symptoms of psychopathology, and medical history. The results indicated that psychiatric symptoms had a negative impact on working memory in the low cultural mistrust group, but no significant effect among high cultural mistrust patients (Whaley, 2012). In my opinion, cultural mistrust is a topic that should be discussed more within the counseling profession. Psychosocial functioning is the ability to work, live independently and socialize with others. Since African-Americans value family and kinship, family resources can have a positive influence on African-Americans with schizophrenia. The hypothesis indicated that family resources could influence the overall functioning. Secondly, if families have fewer resources, there is a likelihood of family dysfunction. Third, the family dysfunction have a negative relationship with psychosocial functioning. Last, the amount of family contact have a positive effect on psychosocial functioning. According the methodology section of this research article, there were ninety-three low-income inner city African-American consumer family dyad participated in this study. Researchers measured several variables. The variables are family resources, family pressure, and family dysfunction, contact between family and consumer, and consumer psychosocial functioning. The assessments were the following: Family Pressure Scale-Ethnic, Financial Well-being Subscale, The Burden Assessment Scale, The Social Support Index, The McMaster Family Assessment Device, and The Role Functioning Scale.
