African American Justice Organizations: The Black Panther Party

The Black Panther Party is an organization, whose goal is equality for African Americans around the world. The original name of the party was Black Panther for Self Defense. It was founded in 1966 by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale in West Oakland, California. The Black Panther party came about after Brown Vs. Education settled and African Americans were still suffering from economic and social discrimination. The Party made it clear it was different from the other African American Justice organizations, mainly by collaborating with white progressive groups. The Black Panthers laid out a 10-point plan that explains their basic beliefs including that belief that the root of all oppression is economic exploitation.
