For Latinos, shows like Jane the Virgin and Cristela, among many other. But these shows are a few that do not depicted Latinos as stereotypes. Another victory was made for the Asian American population with Fresh off the Boat. Fresh of the Boat is a hilarious comedy about an Asian American family living in new community in Florida. It is a huge step for Asian American in television but they still have a lot more process to make. A writer for the New York Times, wrote an article where he mentioned the new ABC show. He said “Despite some progress made on the small screen --thanks “Fresh Off the Boat”! --a majority of roles that are offered to Asian-Americans are limited to stereotypes that would look out of place in an ’80 John Hughes comedy. This problem is even worse when roles that originate as Asian characters end up going to white actors…”(CHOW 2-14)
We have made great progress over the last 75 years. Today there are over 75 plus shows on air depicting people of color(Obenson). As we continue to move forward in the world of television, there is no telling what else may be in stored term of diversity. With our continuous growth of education of the world around us and each other, we have no choice but to evolve as people.
