A lot of African Americans could not play basketball because the Americans would not let them do a lot of stuff so the African Americans tried a lot to do the stuff they wanted. Dr. James Naismith invented basketball at the International YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1891. The game was first played with peach baskets and a soccer ball and was invented to provide indoor exercise for football players. In 1892 Students and Workers at the School Christian Workers play the first public game of basketball. In the March of 1893 Smith College In Massachusetts becomes the first women’s school to play basketball. Men are not allowed to watch the basketball games. In 1894 the free throw line used to 20 feet then they changed it to 15 feet. In 1895 The field goal value went from 3 points from 2 points.The free throw value went from three points to 1 point. Then in 1896 the first ever professional basketball game was played in Trenton, New Jersey. In 1909 players do not get fouled out if they get 4 fouls. On …show more content…

April 9, 1959 Boston Celtics win the first of their 8 consecutive titles. January 25, 1960 Philadelphia's Wilt Chamberlain grabs a NBA record 55 rebounds.
