In the painting, “Assiniboine Chief before and after Civilization” by George Catlin, it illustrated the tragic differences and the conflicts amongst the Native Americans and the white people. In the painting it shows two men dressed in different clothing on different sides of the painting. As you look closely you can tell that the two men are actually just one person. That mysterious man is an assiniboine chief.…
Miccosukee Seminole Indian tribe Over 200 years ago, the Miccosukee tribe have been known by its characteristic way of fighting to protect their territory. First, the Spaniards, and then even worse, the Anglo-American who tried to exterminate the Miccosukee’s Indians almost two centuries ago and who eventually left them no other option than to live in a very small place in ancestral areas of the Everglades in Miami. The Indians seeking for a decent style of life had to adapt themselves to sleep in hammocks. Their houses were called “chickees” and were made of wood, plaster, thatched roofs, and perhaps raised on stilts. After all this battle and years of persecution, they started to establish their permanent home and look for a better life…

The Choctaw Nation, a proud member of the five civilized tribes, is native to the southeastern section of the United States. They can trace their ancestry back to Mississippi and even some parts of Louisiana and Alabama. Culturally, the Choctaws are a matriarchal society, which mainly survived off agriculture, hunting, and gathering. Specifically, they pride themselves on their history of complete adaptation into the European society. The Choctaw Nation accepted foreign religion, ethics, educational systems, legal systems, and even modified their agricultural and economic practices in order to survive in the overwhelming European supremacy, and did so quite efficiently.…
Jared Diamond, in Chapter 19 of the novel Guns, Germs, and Steel, proposes that the black Bantu ethnic group was able to exert dominance over the other four cultural groups in Africa in areas that food production was viable because the Bantu’s sedentary lifestyle was greatly advantaged compared to hunter-gatherers living in the same area. Diamond supports his claims by illustrating the major societal and organizational difference between the Bantu and hunter-gatherer groups and pointing to the methods by which the Bantu expansion was carried out. The author’s purpose is to show what environmental factors led to certain peoples asserting dominance over others in order to support his theory about geographic determinism and refute racist explanations about the fates of human societies. The author writes in a logical scientific tone for an educated and intellectually honest audience. The factors all come together to allow Diamond to create a convincing argument about the factors that led to the Bantu expansion in Africa.…

Understanding the spread of early modern humans has been a question many anthropologists and archeologists have been try to answer. There are two main theories discussing the spread of early modern humans: Out of Africa Theory and Multiregional Evolution Theory. The Out of Africa Theory suggests that Homo erectus evolved into Homo sapiens in Africa, and after the evolution, they ventured out of Africa and dispersed to all around the world. The Multiregional Evolution Theory suggests that Homo erectus ventured out of Africa and then evolved into modern man in several different locations throughout the world. These two theories both try to offer an understanding of how and when modern humans evolved and dispersed across the world, but in order…
