How Does Racism Still Exist

People like to think that racism has just magically disappeared, or that if they ignore it enough it will go away. The truth of the matter is that it will only get worse the less that is done about it. While racism may be less violent than it was in years past, and though the nation has made several progressive steps in moving past it, it still very much exists in many passive-aggressive ways such as: nasty looks, racist remarks, and unnecessary attitudes toward minorities. Nowadays white people in intimate relationships with minorities, specifically blacks, cannot even go into public with their significant others without receiving the same negative treatments. Everyday African-Americans, as well as other nonwhite groups, face people being unfair and down right rude to them just because their skin is a few shades darker. Racism is still very much alive and is still a serious problem. Racism is a problem because the severity of it has not changed over the last 60 years. For example, the masses are still taught to believe that minority groups make up the majority of prisons when it is actually quite the opposite. While the percentage of minority criminals may be higher than whites, the total number of white criminals greatly outnumbers that of minorities. Another statistic that needs to be dropped is the notion that minorities are more likely to become high school dropouts. While this stereotype is simply not true, it is widely considered to be a fact, even amongst teachers. Because of this false statistic, teachers may be less inclined to help a minority student if they feel that the student will not succeed simply due to their skin color. This thought process is absolutely ludicrous, and the only way to abolish it is to do away with false statistics and unfair judgment harshly aimed at
