In Affirmative Action Overview by NCSL, they found that “Affirmative action programs have resulted in doubling or tripling the number of minority applications to colleges or universities, and have made colleges and universities more representative of their surrounding community.” This is a compelling piece of evidence because it shows why diversity is so important. The world and community are so diverse, so workplaces should be as well. Some more specific evidence would be from the same article by NCSL, but this time it has statistics that go into more depth than just a statement. “2007, 70 percent of white high school graduates immediately enrolled in college, compared to 56 percent of African American graduates and 61 percent of Hispanic graduates. . .in 2011, 69 percent of white high school graduates immediately enrolled in college, compared to 65 percent of African American graduates and 63 percent of Hispanic graduates.” This statistic shows that there is progress being made, especially for African American students, who went up almost ten percent. Another piece of evidence that shows clearly that Caucasians often have the upperhand is from What happens to college diversity if you kill affirmative action? by Tanzina Vega. “White families have a median wealth of about $134,000, compared to Hispanics at $13,900 and blacks at $11,000.” Although it is true this may not be completely accurate, it does a good job of summing up studies that have been done that shows about how much of an advantage the majority race can have. A major reason against this argument is that the students who get into college and university because of Affirmative Action are questioned and left with self
