Affective education places emphasis on student attitudes, interests, appreciations, values, and emotions (Hellison, 1991). The objective of affective curriculum is to develop students’ understanding of their emotional and social behavior. This gives them the ability to better themselves in both individual and social aspects of life. The concept of affective education regards teaching in the affective domain. The affective domain is a term derived from Bloom 's Taxonomy of educational objectives. The taxonomy also includes two other domains including the cognitive and the psychomotor domain. It is assumed that when an educator incorporates all three domains, a more complete form of education is created. Bloom 's taxonomy is generally considered to be a fundamental and imperative element within an educational setting. Skills in the affective domain depict the way people react emotionally to internal and external circumstances, also their ability to sympathize and empathize with others. The objectives of affective education attempt to target awareness and growth in the attitudes, emotion, and feelings that students experience (Darling-Hammond, 2002). These interpersonal intelligences must be fostered in the school environment, because social skills are necessary for a person to function well in life (“What is Affective Education,” 2012). Incorporating group activities and discussions into curriculum gives students the ability to understand personality differences and promotes the acceptance of others thoughts and opinions. Because it is crucial for students to feel a sense of belongingness in the classroom, peer relationships must be promoted.
