She actively participates during small and whole group, contributing to discussions and answering questions. She can be very persistent when presented by a problem, for example, when a wheel fell off the shopping cart in dramatic play, Aesha tried multiple solutions to fix the wheel, stating, “I am very good at fixing, my mom told me.” Aesha can identify and name 26 uppercase letters in the alphabet and identify the sounds of 16 letters. Vanessa Junior has been passionate about language arts since the age of 6. She continues to show strength in that area. How I would help her in this area is that I would talk to Vanessa Junior as a baby, read to her, and bring her to different social occasions so people could interact with her. My observation is that she continues to do well in language arts because of the activities I do with her to improve her literacy skills. Vanessa Junior has had an interest in science since being a little girl.…

I volunteered at Jack Jouett Middle School for the eighth-grade AVID program. In the classes, I helped students go through the AVID tutorial process. I functioned as a guide who coached the students through a Socratic process to understand points of confusion from their core classes, and then through collaborative work to understand the steps needed to clarify their point of confusion. All students in the AVID class apply to be in the program. They must have average to high test scores with a C to B+ grade point average.…

Alanna also demonstrates her language comprehension skills every day. On October 29, during Sarah’s letter lesson, Alanna was given three-step directions. I would like to thank you for beautiful novel Airborn, for it has truly inspired me. Intrigued by the quick summary on the back of the book, I took it upon myself to read the book itself. I grew attached to the characters, and I found myself unable to put the book down at times. I loved how I could somehow relate to each character throughout the novel, whether they were small similarities or rather big ones. Each character stood out to me in a unique way that changed the way I think and inspired me to act as they do.…

The first words that come to mind when describing Amelia would be inquisitive, motivated, and a voracious reader. Due to Amelia’s high level of analytical and creative ability, her performance is outstanding in relationship to her ability. Through the use of the Language Arts curriculum from the William and Mary Center for Gifted Education, Amelia is able to use critical reasoning to interpret literature. My favorite part of our time together is the class discussion where Amelia must justify her responses. She consistently displays creative problem solving when engaging in a conversation on numerous subjects.…
