My primary reason for wanting to transfer to The University of Virginia, aside from genuinely desiring to attend the University that several of my good friends attend, is that I wish to participate in the Aerospace Engineering program—for which there is no comparable program at VCU. Thus far, commuting to VCU and taking engineering, mathematics and physics courses related to my intended major(s) of Mechanical Engineering and Physics has been exhilarating, and has helped to solidify my interest in engineering. I have had wonderful experiences at VCU, such as crafting a coil gun and undertaking a University Teaching Assistant position; however, after participating in the Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars (VASTS) program, I knew my passion lay with Aerospace Engineering. This passion to innovate and discover in the realm of Aerospace Engineering prompted my need to change …show more content…
In choosing to pursue these majors at U.Va., I hope to not only acquire the skills and education necessary to solve some of the world’s most challenging, cutting-edge issues through applied science (such as technical issues concerning a manned mission to Mars), but also to contribute to academia in a novel and innovative way, leading my field in the research and development sector on a voyage of discovery and practical application of those discoveries in the form of new technology. I feel that undertaking an education in the fields of Aerospace Engineering and Physics is the best way to utilize my innate ability and avid curiosity for the betterment of myself, and humankind. For the aforementioned reasons, U. Va.’s School of Engineering & Applied Science’s Aerospace Engineering program is the finest option I have to complete my ambitious goals in

The sciences have been central to my life ever since I was a child. My mother is a veterinarian and my father a mechanical engineer. Senior Brag Sheet Career Choice: I plan to double major in mechanical engineering and finance, but still face some uncertainty in this plan. My interests developed mainly from the push of my parents. Ever since I was a child, the overarching career I was pushed towards was engineer or doctor, so I pushed myself to learn topics that would better support these ideas. Classes such as Scitech gave me an understanding of what engineers do which provided me with a great deal of interest. Other clubs such as Science Olympiad and TEAMS have also given me experiences that have fostered this interest in engineering with competitions and processes of creating something.…

When the name “Case Western Reserve University” is mentioned, a myriad of subjects come to mind: research, science, engineering, breakthroughs, and technology, to name a few. In our great university, there seems to be a wider appreciation among students for the sciences than for the humanities -- this does not come as a surprise considering that CWRU is primarily a research university, and faculty and students have been conducting magnificent and ground-breaking scientific research for decades. The science, technology, engineering, and mathematics departments are so nationally recognized and prominently discussed that they often overshadow the humanities departments. However, if I could recommend an elective course to my brilliant science and…

What began as a simple childlike fascination with space and aviation when I watched my first episode of Star Trek as a young girl, has followed me through the years, subtly influencing my choices throughout my studies. To me, the engineers in that series were the true heroes; no matter what happened, they were always able to draw out a “little more power” or come up with the creative work-around (albeit at the last second) that allowed the crew to collectively maneuver themselves out of whatever tight spot they were in and achieve their mission goal. I became enthralled with the idea of pushing technology, and the human body, to its limits, and soon found myself enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania as a bioengineering major and center of their women’s basketball team. While I was fortunate enough to receive many personal accolades during my time at UPenn, the two that are most important to me are winning the Ivy League Championship and being named a Sports Ilustrated on Campus Glue Gal - an award given to a handful of people across the country who "do all the little things" and…

The past seventeen years of my life led up to this momentous month--this month that decided my future: the people I would meet, the caliber of the education that would serve as a foundation for my future, and even perhaps the connections that would serve me further along the road. It was with this knowledge that, at the start of the application process, I knew UC Berkeley was my top choice. Everything was superior, and not a single aspect that I valued was missing from its campus. The weeks where I was accepted and rejected from multiple colleges held little, if any sway on me as I waited for Berkeley’s fateful decision date. And in the days leading up to it, I was not sure what to expect, but I prayed for an acceptance.…
