At one point or another, problems are bound to occur in any relationship, and when they do events can get twisted one way or another. The first of many conflicting viewpoints in book IV of the Aeneid began when Queen Dido and Aeneas had an unofficial marriage. “That day was the first cause of death, and first/ of Sorrow. Dido had no further qualms/ As to impressions given and set abroad;/ She thought no longer of a secret love/ But called it a marriage. Thus under that name,/ she hid her fault.” (Virgil, Aeneid; Book IV 221-227). Although Queen Dido and Aeneas did not actually get married, she was so smitten that she believed that they truly had. Aeneas on the other hand, would later make himself feel better about leaving by using the fact that they did not actually get married.Whenever feelings and emotions are involved, it is easy for events to be perceived differently from what they actually are. Unfortunately, events can be misconstrued as well once romantic relationships end. Virgil also showed this when Queen Dido was furious that Aeneas was leaving her, even though he had no say. In 2014 the nation was divided on the Michael Brown case and the Black-Lives-Matters campaign. Through the peaceful and and not so peaceful protest, the Nation has chosen sides of the disagreement based on moral values and beliefs. Just as in Virgil's epics, citizens have to make decisions based on their perspectives everyday. With the current social issues going on in America, people decide if they support the Black Lives Matter campaign or not based on their beliefs as well as how the media’s perspective shows it.
