Advocacy In Social Work

In my community drug use by teenagers is getting out of hand therefore it is time we do something to keep these kids occupied and out of trouble. I am part of a community board comity here in my home town along with 6 other individuals. We have a local social worker on our comity board and she’s the reason this adventure began. She noticed that many of the children in homes she’d visited were caught up in drugs, alcohol, and weapons exc. It’s her job to find outlets for the parents and children therefore making this problem a social work advocacy issue. One of the most important goals of social work is to help children and families receive much needed resources (Kirst-Ashman & Hull, 2009).There is an old building here in our town that is being sold for 60,000 dollars. It has a pool in the back and was once used for the YMCA before the money dried up to support their cause. The idea that is forming would suggest gathering financial support from local businesses. We would hold fundraisers throughout the year to help support this cause as well as putting in donation jars in every local business that invested. …show more content…
Families who joined would pay a small fee based on a sliding scale measured by income. Some families might even be able to join free depending on their need. We don’t want to leave any children out simply because they can’t afford to pay. Members who did pay would do so either per visit, weekly, monthly or yearly. Memberships would include swimming during the summer and swimming lessons to those who need to learn, the after school program, family nights full of fun activities and the most exciting program is called the Parent Relief Program. This program is for parents who need child care for those busy days or evenings for date night. It is our hope that we can negotiate with the seller and pay closer to 45,000 for the
