Tribune, which highlighted Medical Assistant Megan Jefferies. Joe Anderson worked with the Journalist in writing the story. Kris told the members that Joe inadvertently forgot to add SOHOPE contact information and Kris put it in the comment section of the website and alerted College staff that people may be inquiring about the story. Next, Kris let our group know that SOHOPE has had 260 people attend Information Sessions with 90 people entered in the Pages database.…
Sophomore year has come to an end. If you’re anything like me, reflecting is vital to moving on to the next part of life. I feel like I can’t properly continue in my next chapter of life without having some quiet moments to think about the lessons learned. Oh, and trust me, there have been plenty.…
So he decided to call the students one by one but of course he was basing himself on the roster that he had. Indeed my turned came, and he told me that sadly I didn’t pass, and that he was sad because, he knew that I was a good student that he doesn’t know what happened to me. So yes the next semester came around, and it’s like this if you don’t pass it they right away give you a retaining class which that pretty much means that you didn’t pass the test, and in the other hand you’re going to waste another half semester in a retaining class instead of you taking another, class that it could be really useful, or one that you just simply need. Well long story short I finally walked in, and I actually got a pretty nice teacher that he could actually controlled the classes that he had. Well indeed, finally the day of the exam came over, and I simply told myself that I could do it that I simply just had to read it carefully, and just simply had to take my time, and this time I was going to pass because, I had a really good teacher, and…
A Hero's Journey The last month of summer before my junior year started was occupied with pondering and wondering what I wanted to accomplish during the upcoming school year. Sure, junior year sounds like a blast, filled with fun memories and friends. But it also doubles as approaching the cliff of adulthood that I would hit in two short years. Every step I take my junior and senior year will be one step closer to that ledge.…
At the staff meetings, specific plans are devised and tailored to help foster progress in clients who are not progressing or progressing to slowly. Such plans reflect the fact that the more clients who pass through the program and eventually move to either independent or supportive living, the more successful is the organization. The Administrator inspires and motivates each client to focus on his/her condition and set goals for where he/she wants to see him/herself in a year. The Administrator encourages staffs to set goals for themselves in terms of how many clients they want to move to supportive living, but preferably independent living, within a specific time.…
‘Just one hour of this and you can go back to sleep’ was the phrase I groggily repeated to myself as I got ready to register for my freshman year of high school. Had I known that the mountain of paperwork I was about to fill out that late July morning would ultimately lead to me finding my passion, I would have definitely been a lot more enthusiastic. I traded all my information for my schedule, only to realize that there was one slight problem: P.E. was on my list of courses for the year. Physical education? I sought out my counselor immediately to fix this quandary.…
I attended a meeting with the Latino Medical student Association on the topic of DACA and how it can affect medical school hopefuls. My friend who is a member of the organization informed me about the meeting and with what was going on in the news regarding the future of DACA and its recipients I thought it would be important to go. l learned that they are very big on community and connecting their members with different opportunities as well as fostering a comfortable environment that allows their members to freely speak about important topics. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the experiences of students from different backgrounds that were all Dreamers. I'd be lying if I said I didn't get emotional hearing about the many times medical…
In the beginning of high school, I couldn’t understand the importance of handling my responsibilities, especially when it came to my school work. I just couldn’t find the motivation to hand in stuff like homework on time. I actually started to do less and less each school year. I never try to fix my problem because there were never any consequences to it. I would pass all my classes with decent grades with no problems despite ignoring a lot of the work, but then I was called by my English teacher to stay after class.…
Unlike many of my peers, my life story is slightly different. Many of my peers share the story of living in a single parent home, being homeless, violence, and poverty. However, in my case, living in a two parent household is strange to hear about to my peers. For me, living in a two parent household means more work because of my desire to receive a full scholarship. Upon my research, I noticed that many of my older peers would receive better college financial opportunities because of their life experiences.…
After only attending a municipality meeting once in high school for a civics paper, I was really blown away by the level of professionalism and efficiency that took place at this legislative meeting. Although it would be unfair of me to compare the small Dallas Township Municipal meeting with the Legislative session that took place at the Historic Courthouse that evening on February 21st at six o’clock. I really didn’t know what to expect for the most part, but once the meeting began I was able to use what information we had covered in class to help understand and put into words what legislation went through the County Council. To my surprise, a portion of the meeting felt like it was straight from a popular late night television special highlighting…
We discussed on what I needed to work on to prepare myself for college. I tried explaining to him all the reasons why I should not go out of my comfort zone of any english class. He said something very important to me that I will never forget, “if you do not try how will you ever become successful? You need to push yourself to do better” those words really spoke to me. I told him to sign me up for this class not only to prepare myself for college but to push myself to become better, just like he said.…
Leadership Interview I recently had the opportunity of interviewing Mr. Maity who has more than ten years of experience in leadership positions within his organization. He started his career after grad school with a small non-profit research organization. His leadership abilities were quickly realized and he became a part of a large company as a Project Manager. He recalls that in his first job, the small size of the company and the nature of operations meant that soon after joining the firm, he started taking up multiple responsibilities with many being outside of his core functional role. This valuable learning experience has allowed him to excel in his current leadership position.…
First of all, College was terrifying. No one in my family has even graduated High School, one day you’re graduating college, next day you’re choosing a career based on no information whatsoever. I was Seventeen with no clue of what was college, my life was revolving around friends and being a kid. Not choosing a Life Decision, and like any other kid, I procrastinated. I thought I had more time, to just apply to a university and that’s it.…
Along with learning from failures, the taking knowledge from professor’s ideals will follow me into the next semester. Each professor is different and coming in as a freshman from a small private high…
I was fortunate enough to attend the 2016 H. W. Sumners Leadership Conference where I would have the opportunity to meet a unique pool of influential individuals. Most of my leadership experiences had come from group projects with students who I were familiar with, and the conference gave me the chance to become a team with strangers from across the United States and Mexico. I was not aware of how much I was actually going to get out of the conference. Through the elective workshops, I learned much more about my leadership style and who I could become as a leader. Through the speakers, I learned about the power of creating a vision and pursuing with unyielding faith.…
