Companies hire advertisers to promote their products to the general public. The advertisers must come up with creative tactics to really sell the product or else the public will not care if the advertisement is not eye catching or appealing. A flyer that simply says “Buy our product, it’s better.” will not sell to many people because it is not intriguing. But if the advertisement is visually appealing (colors, celebrities, and product descriptions) will catch the public’s attention and they will be intrigued to learn more about what is being advertised and will be more inclined to buy it. Hair product companies, such as Herbal Essences and Pantene, use celebrities and colors to hype up what the product will actually do for you are quite commonly used and have had tremendous success rates, though they may not always be one hundred percent true. Using a celebrity to sell hair products is nothing new. And Herbal Essences and Pantene are no exception. In these particular advertisements, they do not use A-list celebrities to sell their hair products, but celebrities that appeal to everyday women. Knowing their audience is crucial because the wrong hair model can send the wrong message. Nicole Scherzinger and Zooey Deschanel can pass for the average consumer. The key selling point is obviously the hair, so they have to make it look as shiny, voluminous, and presentable as possible.
