Jozui in her passage argues that consumers should boycott advertising that stars a celebrity, and provide rules for advertisers. The author supports her position by first explaining that by having celebrity star in a commercial it gives the consumer a false sense of the product. She continues to support her reasoning by explaining that the celebrity might not have or use the product being advertised. The authors purpose is to limit the advertisers in what they can use to promote their products in order to give consumers a truthful idea of what the products are or can do. Advertisers do not have to abide by any rules or limits due to the fact that they can not control what the consumers chose to buy, only what they see or hear. While advertisements with celebrity endorsers tend to be manipulative, it all comes down to what the consumer wants to spend his/her money on at the end of the day. Never has their jobs been to make consumers buy the products against their wills. Granted some advertisements do tend to manipulate audiences to make sales. Yet in the end it is the consumer's money, and the consumer's choice to make whether or not they want to buy the product. There is no hypnotising trick inputted in the advertisements to get the consumers to buy products. Consumers are the ones with the real power in this type of situation.
Most if not all commercials or ads have celebrity stars or host. These type of commercials are given too much credit due to the image of the celebrity in the advertisement. However the choice still rests on the consumer and his/her decision whether or not buy the product. In all honesty it does not make sense to have a famous celebrity that makes a large sum of money stars in a commercial that goes out to those living off of minimum
