Advertisement Analysis: Turtle Shirt And Saturday Night Live

Improved Essays
For our project, my group decided to create a series of advertisements to go along with a fake product called “Turtle Shirt” shown on the popular television show, Saturday Night Live. We created two advertisements through Photoshop that were made to be shown across multiple social media platforms and displayed on billboards throughout larger cities, such as Los Angeles and New York City. Our target demographic is mainly men who have continuous awkward situations within their daily lives. The advertisements were created using a bright green color, representing a turtle, but also to catch the viewer’s eye. Since this was not a serious product, we wanted to promote it in a humorous and enticing way. One of the advertisements shown had displayed reviews from past customers, such as Ed Sheeran and Professor Stephen Mandiberg. This was done to help interpolate the audience we were presenting to, which was …show more content…
I wish our group had more time to plan everything out, rather than rushing to finish everything within a two week time period. Our group did not work together as well as I had hoped for. I came up with the idea and also spent a lot of time photoshopping each of the pictures for our project. I feel as though if I did not come up with the idea or begin to work on the project, my group would have been lost. Also, two of my group members barely showed up to class, which resulted in them not knowing what was going on. My group did not do much of anything else to contribute to this project. To be fair, they did not know how to Photoshop at all. But, I wish they shared more of their ideas and gave valuable feedback. There was a serious lack of communication between all the group members. Overall, I am satisfied with the end result for the amount of time we did have for this project. Our advertisements looked legitimate as if they could be displayed on billboards and social media, which is what I had hoped for the end

The Ultimate Attraction For years turning the page in a magazine, or clicking on a new link in your browser the first thing that appears is commonly an advertisement. Now imagine it’s a couple engaging each other in a very sexual way. Would this steal the attention and make you consider the what advertisement is for? Since the beginning of multimedia there have been advertisements, displays that are used to promote products and services to a wide range of audiences. The conflict of how to sell certain products has always been a struggle however, deciding how to properly place, and use the intended product in a way that would convince the audience and others to purchase or want to purchase the subject.…

    The Onion Parody

If advertisements were compared to side by side, a pattern of techniques to promote the products would start to emerge. Strategies such as having professionals or celebrities endorse the product and getting customers to give reviews for credibility, or using language as a tool to make claims that may or may not be true, sound convincing. “The Onion” parodies these ploys in an article in order to show how pretentious and unreliable adverts can be. To begin with, the article addresses the overused tactic of bringing professionals and customers to explain how well the product works to build up credibility.…

The group project felt important to me, because it gave me a chance to present a topic that was meaningful to me. The topic of my group’s project was anti-racism in protest songs, and showing how many artists took to the stage with their thoughts of equality, attempting to change the way that some people are perceived in this nation. Preparing this project didn’t go without stress or challenges though. My group partners, despite my persistent nagging, procrastinated until the last minute to get any work done, and even though there were five of us in my group, only two people did any significant work on the presentation. As the deadline for the presentation was growing closer, I knew that it was time to act.…

The research project was an assignment I did not enjoy. I felt like the assignment was a little rushed, and that the class was not given enough time to meet with other group members. Not having enough time to do an assignment is one of my biggest pet peeves. I think we should have had class, instead of group conferences. The group conference was a one hour conference with the group and the professor.…

I feel as if the group project could have been done a lot better I felt as there was more of a focus on getting to know one another rather than focusing on the assessment. Currently I am not as confident on working with individuals that I don’t know so well as I was when we first started as I realized not everyone in the group had the same approach towards the task as I did especially in terms of prioritization despite this I believe I am more confident in showing leadership as Staci and Emily had other commitments I attempted to accommodate for this by contacting them and working out times when they were both free I believe this was a positive thing as normally in group assessments I have a tendency to rely on other people to make decisions like this and it was a positive experience delegating rather than receiving tasks. Overall working with Staci and Emily was fine as I have a more passive personality in group assignments it was a good learning experience for me a study has also shown that working as group positively influences and facilitates an exchange of knowledge(Shaw, Mitchell and Del Fabbro, 2015) this definitely occurred during our group work when it came to elaborating on social determinants I was able to help both Staci and Emily better understand them while Staci assisted me in learning about the stream factors overall I believe we compensated very well for each other’s gaps of knowledge . On the other side of the spectrum our fourth member Louis was difficult to work with as he contacted us the weekend before the assignment was actually ready to present and this caused a lot of stress and panic, after talking to Emily and Staci they definitely felt the same way about the situation with…

The advertisement I have chosen is depicting a man, wearing a suit, who is longingly looking into a mirror. However, the mirror is not reflecting himself currently, but his past. Among the commonly known unethical MC practices include, stereotyping, controversial messages, targeting vulnerable groups and covert marketing. Stereotyping is to form a fixed idea that many people have about a thing or group that may often be untrue or only partly true (Merriam-webster.com 2017). For example, the elderly are often shown as ignorant, and helpless and other cultures of the world are often portrayed in a stereotypical way that may offend them and stimulate prejudices in society. Another unethical practice is controversial messages.…

During and after the group project I got a better understanding of NAVAL and a better understanding of my group. For example, Lexi is the leader of the group and Camille is the worker bee meaning that she is the one to go to for the information about the presentation. There were many high points in the group such as when we completed are power point early and when we researched the information. I had a blast working with them. A low point was when the video couldn’t load and we had to start from scratch again.…

Everyone has grown up and has heard the phrase “don’t judge a book by its cover” at some point in their lives. Usually it’s about something unattractive covering something compelling on the inside, but have you ever thought that something beautiful could have ugly insides? What the ad by British Petroleum, “Advertisings Basic Fifteen Appeals” by Jib Fowles, and “What 's Wrong with "Deceptive" Advertising?” by Daniel Attas have essentially helped me learn even more so is to not judge a book by its cover; advertisers can make something look shiny and alluring in order for them to get their way. Devious individuals play your emotions into getting what they desire.…

As a television, computer, smartphone, or any other multi-media device is in the possession of many people today, advertisements are seen by everyone on a daily basis. Whether it is for food, clothes, or even an advertisement for a big game, it is designed to appeal to the senses. The advertiser wants to make the viewer feel as if they can see, taste, touch, smell, and hear what is presented in front of them. It is all about appealing to the viewer’s senses and emotions. This is why advertisement’s one would see on a network like Comedy Central differs from what one would see on Cartoon Network.…

She Must Like a Male The commercial I chose to analyze is a Thai advertisement, it described a tough day which a taxi driver has experienced. At first, the commercial started at displaying that the driver has experienced lots of problems, such as customers who took the taxi without paying the fee, or customers who puked on the taxi, and the most dangerous one is that a robber was trying to rob and even beat the driver. After the driver back home with a bleeding face, a child appeared and asked anxiously: “Mom, are you hurt?” Through his words, the audiences have realized that the driver was a female.…

If a consumer knows what they are looking at and understand what the advertisement is saying or trying to say then they might be more cautious when looking at the advertisements and media in today’s world. The articles “With These Words I Can Sell You Anything” by William Lutz and “The Language of Advertising” by Charles O’Neill explains the use of advertisement and the effect on the target audience. Through the credibility of both authors, the diction they use and how they use it and the tone of both of the authors state their stance and knowledge about the topic of advertising. Overall I do believe that O’Neill’s article is the most effective. O’Neill was very to the point on what he needed to say about advertising.…

Everywhere we go nowadays, advertisements are prevalent all over; making it difficult to depict an underlying meaning seeing as you are constantly surrounded by them. Whether you are out and about, or sitting at home watching TV, products are constantly being displayed that you “need to get.” Some gimmicks and sayings that are used to promote these services or items are completely ridiculous, or even offending. There are many ads that have hidden messages that pertain to topics such as race, gender, class, and disability that can be stereotypical and insulting. A particular advertisement that caught my attention was an ad campaign from Suitsupply called “Toy Boys” which featured many pictures of men playing on blown up women's bodies like…

Fast food restaurants are a very big part of American culture. The good thing about fast food restaurants is that they are cheap and taste good. Millions of people go to them just because they are quick, easy, and convenient for everyone. I think fast food restaurants have a lot of false advertising because you never hear or see about how many calories are actually in their food. Or if it does show the calories, it’s in really small writing on the ad or commercial.…

Overall, I was extremely happy with the effort my group put into this project. In terms of attending the group meetings, everyone was present and participated in the discussion. The first meeting took place on a Sunday afternoon at Baruch and the second meeting took place on a weeknight in the form of a Google Hangout. The times and places of these meetings alone displayed every group members’ commitment to the project, effort to accommodate for scheduling conflicts, and effort to ensure they are contributing their fair share to the group regardless the time or day of the week. At these meetings, we discussed ways to engage the crowd and critiqued each other’s slides and presentations.…
