It supports this claim by giving us a photo of a scenario, we have a living room setting and a woman who is alone. The woman is wearing a dress & tights, her heels are on the floor beside the couch suggesting she just returned from a night out. She is clearly intoxicated and unconscious, this is proven by the wine bottles surrounding her on the floor & her hand that has fallen off the couch is cradling an empty wine glass. Sex with a woman who is unable to consent is considered rape, or sexual assault. The text within the photo states "Just because she isn't saying no.....doesn't mean she is saying yes. The strategies of marketing determine whether the product is going to reach out to the consumers, and become a successful product. Marketing strategies that are used today are resembling the strategies that were in place years ago. A strategy that was often used years ago is shown in Jennifer Pozner's article “Dove’s Real Beauty’ Backlash” this article “aims to sell beauty products according to the implicit philosophy”(Pozner 194). One of those philosophies are “Cellulite is slightly, women’s natural aging process is shameful, and flabby thighs are flawed and must be fixed”(194). Advertisers essentially continue to use most of the same strategies today, because these strategies are very effective just as they were in the past.…

Many people are not aware of how susceptible they are to the influences and subliminal messages found within advertising today. The truth is, teenagers as well as adults are numb to the fact that they are even being influenced by it, which is in turn manipulating them. One way these viewers and potential buyers are being drawn in to these advertisements are by companies promoting a favorite, even universal, technique: sex. In Jean Kilbourne 's essay, "Two Ways a Woman Can Get Hurt": Advertising and Violence, it is evident that sex in advertising is the primary approach used to negatively draw in viewers; however, this approach objectifies women, portrays women as weak and defenseless creatures in the eyes of men, as well as encouraging men…

A good example on how on how advertisers use gender portrayals is that the male in a soap opera which makes an appearance in daytime television is caring and is not able to show his masculine side due to a women’s view of a men’s masculine side. Advertisers use portrayals of different men and women images to explore their motivations on what kind of commercials they would sit down for, and pay attention to. The Calvin Klein Jean ad shows a half-naked man draped over half-naked women both of the oiled up and twisting around each other, conveys an implied steamy twosome. Calvin Klein is known for their quality of clothing and their high status on the fashion runway. In the ads, they are known for their edginess. They are not shy about going out of the norms when it comes to making their adverts. It all started in 1980 with the Brooke Shields (a 15 year old girl) advert in 1980, with a punch line "Nothing comes between me and my class" One would argue that even though the ad is targeting a younger demographic there still needs to be a sense of responsiveness towards proper ethics.…

In an essay that I read titled the “ Two Ways a Woman Can Get Hurt” by Jean Kilbourne, she also expresses herself in her essay on how women are being treated in advertisements. The advertisement she informs about is the Old Spice deodorant ad. In this advertisement there is a man who is on top of a woman, the advertisement has the word “NO” in big bold font.…
