Adversity In Pride And Prejudice And The Impossible

Many people all around the world face many difficulties and misfortunes throughout their lives. It isn’t the struggles that define their character, it’s what they do about the struggles that does. Like the book Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, and the film The Impossible, they both explore the elements of adversity and its relationship to heroism. In Pride and Prejudice we are introduced to the character Elizabeth Bennet. The second character we were introduced to was Maria from the film The Impossible. Although the scenarios between the characters are very different, and they both show different heroic characteristics, they both prove themselves at the end to be heroines. (pg 14). Although, she has a quick adversity in seeking assumption in others that leads to show prejudice toward them and in her character. She had said to Bingley “And your defect is to hate everybody.” (pg. 30/32). She made a bias assumption towards Bingley saying that he makes himself hate everyone, and her prejudice is shown through her character by assuming that in his character. This shows a flaw in her human nature, and with this issue she runs into a few difficulties with her peers. She had many good human nature points and heroic characteristics, such that she expressed her opinions and thoughts when coming to important view points in that time such a marriage, it being a big part of your life. She uses her human nature senses to observe that the people around her say that marriage is the one way ticket to fulfill happiness. Elizabeth grew up in a time where wealth and marriage was more of a priority than true love in a marriage. The problem was, not all marriages were stable due to the lack of true love which left many wives in despair and in affectionless relationships. In addition, it was said back during this time period that, “It is a truth
