Furthermore, I believe this song can help represent me due to the fact that I still think about others when I have an insignificant problem. I live in Canada, an affluent, developed, and free country, unlike other individuals who are required to live in war torn, and poverty-stricken countries, who tend to be much less fortunate. There are third world problems that billions of people face, but then there are first world problems that people in North America face, including me, like losing a pair of headphones. There is a drastic difference regarding the importance of the two adversities. Jackson wants individuals that are blessed to live in a developed country, to assist those that are struggling, such as children in an African country.
The majority of people in this world are not grateful for what they already have, and over a million people can barely conceptualize coming close to the gifts that individual is blessed with. Jackson’s song illustrated this well, and I believe that the song represents me because I used to be ungrateful like Jackson was in the song. Everyone faces a problem like this sometime in their life, but for change to occur, you need to change yourself first. The example of my partner and I being required to change, helps illustrate why Jackson’s song also represents me as a person because I’m willing to be the change to ensure success.
Overall, music has the ability to associate messages with people; they can be negative or positive messages. As a result, I believe Jackson’s song is the best song to represent me because of the positive messages it promotes. In the end, music like Jackson’s song, helped influence me to become a better person, and this has stuck with me all my life. This is why Man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson would be my theme
