Social media lowers students’ GPA and discourages good attitudes in academic environments. A recent study by researchers at the Miriam Hospital Center for Behavioral and Preventive Medicine in Providence, RI, shows that the use of such devices to text, watch online videos and post statuses on Facebook is associated with lower grade point averages (Abhinaya). These habits have an effect on student’s grades. Fifty-one percent of heavy media users actually get grades of B or higher. About half of heavy media users do not get above average grade. When students are on social medias it can be stressful towards them sometimes. Social networking can exacerbate feelings of disconnect (especially for youth with disabilities), and put children at higher risk for depression, low self-esteem, and eating disorders (ProCon). This shows that these sites have a huge part in disconnecting students from school work and life in general. Social media’s harm the attitudes of the students, making it incapable of performing at max capacity in school because of the mental stress. Despite the fact that some people believe that social media has a positive impact on children. Social media did not have a huge impact in the past years when they weren 't so relevant. The children today are greatly impacted by the use of these sites, the academic progression has never seemed so low.
