Education continues to be a hot button topic in the United States. Essentially, the debate is whether or not the federal government or the state and local government should control the K12 public school system. Some state governments however, have not been successful in managing their public systems leaving students in those states at disadvantage when competing with students from states with better school systems. Some would like to argue that local and state government should continue to run public school systems because each state knows what is best for the student population. The taxpayer dollars that are being used for vouchers should be put towards rebuilding the public schools. Presidential candidate Donald Trump believes that America should continue to allow charter, public and private schools to compete because it will force them to improve. However, when the state is publically funding private school vouchers it is taking from the money that should be used to help public schools. This is not helping the community because not everyone can get a voucher or afford the private schools and students left in the public school system are not ready to face the real world. This argument for voucher fails to take into consideration why vouchers were created in the first place. Vouchers were created to allow students from low-income areas, where the schools tend to be in very bad conditions, to attend private schools. Students from poorly funded schools are not equipped with the tools to succeed if they decide to go to college. The fact that vouchers are still being used is a clear sign that the public school system is failing to do its job. However, Private school vouchers may serves as a temporary fix for the larger problem. Publicly funded vouchers can help some students get out of the low-income schools while the federal government makes plans to get public schools more funding. Vouchers cannot be a permanent fix to the problem because it is not an option that all students have access
