New penology is the ideology of the current parole making systems, with the beliefs that crime is just a part of life and we have to accept it and try to emphasizes the idea of managing people to prevent crime (Feeley, Simin, 1992 p.455). The new penology system accepts the notion crime is not something that can be removed from society, and tries to reinforce the idea of crime is just something that people need to be able to live with(Feeley, Simon, 1992. p.455). A big notion of the new penology is putting more of a focus on trying to patrol problem areas and target populations, with less of a focus on rehabilitation and more retribution(Feeley, Simon, 1992. p455). Also the efficiency of the system can help and along for more inmate to be helped out by the system, because being able to assess inmates though as series of questions and plug them into a computer always for more inmates to be processed. Another benefit of the new penology system is that since a computer is being used to determine the risk level of a inmate it removes any negative bias that could come from a correctional officer that they could have towards the person, or the persons, race, religion, culture, etc. With the ideology of being tough on crime and keeping people incarnated longer is a drain on many resources and research shows that longer sentences do not provide very much a of positive outcome (Goggin, Cullen, …show more content…
New penology ideologies have removed the notion of ever living in a crime less world, which is understandable unrealistic to live in a world without crime. Though it is important to understand and always be trying to reach for a goal and if that goal is just to try to mange crime and of certain populations and areas in hopes of reducing crime, the results are going to what they have been lately with lots of tension between police and citizens. Which should not be the case citizens should not be afraid to go the the police, because if they are they what is point of having police.
