Advantages Of Interest Groups

The United States is a vast country of many regions, ethnic groups, occupations, and different beliefs therefore; the number of interests groups will continue to grow over the years. Interest groups are an assemblage of individuals who share common objectives and who actively attempt to influence policymakers. They exist for us to have a voice and act upon it. Any individual who is willing to make a difference for their cause is welcomed to join a group. They operate at all levels of the government and use a variety of strategies to steer policies in ways beneficial to their interests. Three methods used to influence the government are lobbying, demonstrations, and providing election support. Interest groups target both minor and major issues, spreading awareness and helping bridge the gap between citizens and the government.

Despite the bad press they receive, they do help the community in several ways. They inform us about pressing news and serve as another method to check on public officials if they are carrying out their duties responsibly. The saying that strength lays in number is extremely true in politics. The larger the interest group is the more the impact it will make. Together we stand stronger and together we make a difference. Our voice shall not be silent, it shall be heard. Each interest group expresses a different or similar concern, but they all aim for the same goal; to improve our nation.
