What is hydroelectric Energy?

Hydroelectricity is a term that is referred to as generating electricity by Hydropower. Hydropower is a movement of water that flows downstream to create Kinetic Energy, which can be converted into electricity. Hydroelectric plants convert the energy into electricity by forcing water. The hydropower produces electric power through the use of flowing water or the gravitational force. Hydroelectricity is a renewable energy resource; for hydropower to generate electricity it uses the water cycle. For hydropower to generate a lot of electricity it is mostly dependent on elevation and precipitation changes. Large elevation changes and high precipitation levels are essential to generating a significant amount of electricity. Areas such the Pacific Northwest Mountain will be more productive in generating electricity for hydropower than an area such as the Gulf Coast.

The Advantages and the Disadvantages of Hydroelectricity

Hydropower is the most efficient power generator currently. Hydropower is capable to turn 90% of available energy into electricity. If Hydropower is compared to the most efficient fossil fuel plants, which it is only capable of converting 60% of its available energy. The hydropower is a very low operating cost than compared to others.

What Energy Transformation is there in a Hydropower Plant?

The water in the reservoir is potential energy, which then changes into kinetic energy when it is forced through the turbine. The blades, which are in the turbine, are kinetic energy. While the blades are spinning it converts the kinetic energy into electrical energy because of the nature of the generator. The generators use electromagnetic initiates turbines, when the turbine is a basic level it rotates a wire in the magnetic field. This is what generates electricity.

(How Geothermal Energy Works) After we find and drill holes into the earth to get the water vapor, we transfer it into electricity. We do this using a steam turbine generator. The turbine is operated by heating the water found from hot spots creating steam. The steam is guided through a pipe which is used to rotate the blades of a turbine. This is very similar to the windmill; the heat energy from the steam is then turned to mechanical energy.…

There are many arguments as to whether or not if hydroelectric power is a good solution. I believe it is a good solution from using fossil fuels as an energy source but there could possibly be better sources. It is more environmentally friendly than fossil fuels. Hydroelectric power does not pollute the environment however, it can have environmental impacts. Studies have shown that hydroelectric power plants can increase the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.…

Hydroelectric power sites use a dam to store river water in a reservoir. And the water released from that reservoir goes through a turbine, spinning it, which activates a generator to produce electricity. Hydroelectric power is a domestic source of energy, without relying on international fuel sources. Hydropower is fueled by water so it becomes a clean fuel source. These power sites are important because unlike power plants, they will not pollute the air and are better for the environment.…

On the one hand, some people will argue that the government should invest more money expanding oil and gas. While others contend developing wind and solar energy would be the smartest way to go. Mark Lewis argues that oil prices could stay so low that is no longer economic to bring in high cost new oil fields.
