In The Outsiders Darry has certain rules and boundaries he set upon Pony and Soda. Because of these rules, Pony was able to say that he liked life with Darry and that he was responsible. If he didn’t have anything good to say he could have been shipped away to a boy’s home. In Parents the kid is kept away from bad kids because he could get dragged into a their shenanigans and one will probably result in some jail time. The kid has boundaries and staying away from bad kids is one of them. He keeps away and doesn’t become part of the group so while he is free doing what should be done the hooligans will probably be in jail serving time for a crime they committed.
