The use of computer assisted language has received both criticism and attention in equal measure from language teachers throughout the world; this is attributed to the computer revolution which has increased computer literacy levels due to incorporation of computers in teaching programs in modern education. Arguably computers have many advantages, hence there increased utilization in language institutions, this has mainly benefited the young generation. However, at times computers and teachers are often seen to be adversaries but they should instead complement each other.
In recent years there has been an increase in enthusiasm towards utilizing computers in teaching and learning English as a second language. A few years back, the utilization of computers in language teaching and learning was a cause of alarm to language teachers who were acquainted with computers. At the same time, computer assisted language learning (CALL) has been researched on by English and foreign language instructors. This is because computers are readily available thus enabling student’s to use the computer and derive maximum benefit from the computer assisted language learning program.The CALL program accommodates both fast and slow learners and uses the approach of allocating time limits when answering questions which is essential for evaluation purposes.additionally its versatility is of great help since it is capable of multitasking.it also makes it possible to present information in a form that is simple to understand,this is achieved by use of tables,graphics,audio and text.Another advantage of computer assisted language is that incorporates games,questions and answers that facilitate learning by creating a favorable and conducive learning
