Grosjean emphasizes that “It has long been known that there are many advantages to being bicultural such as having a greater number of social networks, being aware of cultural differences, and taking part in the life of two or more cultures, being an intermediary between cultures and so on.” Grosjean is correct because having two cultures in life broadens a person's understanding for other cultures and traditions. In addition, it is also very beneficial when it comes to working and communicating with others in places like school, work, and everyday life. For example, someone who is bicultural usually knows more than one language and can therefore have more opportunities in their job because knowing more than one language is becoming highly needed with all the different languages that people use around the world. For instance, a majority of the American culture believes in being independent, such as providing for yourself and working hard to reach your goals. Although Americans are not the only ones with that belief, they are one culture that truly emphasizes it, therefore someone who grew up between the American culture and another culture can pick that specific trait and add it to their own characteristics. Furthermore, it has also been proven that biculturals have a greater abundance of ideas and creativity. In a recent study by researchers Carmit Tadmor, Adam Galinsky, and William Maddox report that biculturals exhibit more fluency of ideas, more numbers of ideas, and are more creative in their ideas (Grosjean). The study consisted of two groups, a bicultural group and another that was not, they were shown the picture of brick and given two minutes to write down as many creative uses of it as they could think of; the results showed that biculturals came up with more creative ideas (Grosjean).
