What was once an idea of human sadness and compassion is now the idea that anyone who suffers from normal sadness, because of societal or personal reasons, is not happy enough and requires medication. The author, Sharon Begley, wrote a piece called “Happiness: Enough Already. This piece focuses on how society is turning into a group of people that believes they will never be happy enough. Life is not a void filled with despair and difficulties as Hamlet has depicted in his soliloquy. Looking at Roger Ebert and Steve Jobs, we can see that it is possible to be content with your life even though it may seem like an unrealistic dream to some. Just because you can’t see it now doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. And it most certainly does not mean you won’t be able to find happiness later down the road. Life is valuable; it just depends on how you choose to look at it.…

Colin Wilson in his quote is trying to explain the downfalls of normality. He describes how our day to day normal lives are similar to a cow standing in the rain, just taking it. I completely agree with Colin Wilson, I think he has a very good point about normality today. How we see everything pass by us, yet it doesn't effect us in a deep rooted sense. The average man conforms so easily to the demands of society and he takes no gratitude in individuality.…

Other days it is a violent stormy green, threatening to destroy your ship.…

Individuals that flourish in cherishing connections don't regularly feel discouraged. Gloom is symptomatic of feeling confined and cut off. In our drive to carry on with the great life, we ordinarily disengage ourselves from connections that may feed us. Close and cherishing relations have turned out to be to some degree underestimated and have lost an incentive in our exceptionally rushed lives. Our excited pace of life sees one day obscure into another until the point when life starts to lose its significance.…

Dan Gilbert, TED talk speaker, in the TED talk “The Surprising Science of Happiness” claims, we tend to overrate any horrible situation. In addition, he states that we have the capacity to synthesize happiness, or in other words, accept the things we cannot change by finding a way to be happy. Dan Gilbert documents his point extensively, and it is important to add that overcoming adversity can create a lasting satisfaction. Emily Smith states that “People who have a purpose in life rate their satisfaction with life higher, even when they were feeling bad, than those who did not have a clearly defined purpose.” Although others may disagree with much that Emily Smith says, some endorse her final conclusion that overcoming adversity can create a lasting satisfaction.…

“There’s More to Life Than Being Happy” is a journal article that was written by Emily Esfahani Smith. It was published on January 9, 2013. Its purpose is simply to explain to the audience that, ‘It is the very pursuit of happiness that thwarts happiness’ (Smith 2013). I very much enjoyed this journal article because after reading it I felt that I had actually connected to it. For example, a big topic that she focused on while writing this article, was that being happy dealt with “taking”, while living a meaningful life, dealt with “giving” (Smith 2013).…
