UBER
In Mexico City there used to be a monopoly in the public transportation service. If someone had to go from one part of the city to the other, they could either use the bus or the underground. But if someone wanted to get from point A to point B without walking and using his own car, they had to take a taxi. This monopoly ended when Uber was launched in Mexico City in 2013. The taxi drivers didn’t want to accept this, which caused a lot of trouble. This essay will deal with the tension between Uber and Taxi drivers. Moreover, the intention of this essay is to give proposals for a harmonic solution to this problem.
When Uber was launched in Mexico taxi drivers attacked Uber drivers because they felt the Uber drivers where taking their job opportunities. But why is that?
For example, taxi drivers think that Uber drivers offer the same transportation service as them. Meanwhile, Uber states that it offers a private driver with a car. Because these two opinions and statements are very similar, they cause controversy. When Uber launched in Mexico, like in all other countries, it started in a political gray zone. A big advantage of Uber is that you can rate your driver and give them up to five stars if you are satisfied with their service. Also you can be sure, that the Uber drivers are not criminals, and that they are registered, which makes it more safe. For example, a lot of taxi drivers are not registered, and they have manipulated taxi meters. Moreover you don´t have to carry cash with you, if you order an Uber and you already get an expected price for your trip. In other words, Uber is the safer, easier and more transparent transportation service for the higher
