Advantages And Disadvantages Of Tourism Industry In Pakistan

Weaknesses:
1. In spite of the very evident importance of the Tourism Sector for Pakistan, the sector has not obtained its due attention from either the Federal or Provincial Governments. Due to governmental negligence, after National Tourism Policy 1990, this was the 2nd National Policy Draft on Tourism.
2. With the abolishing of the Federal Ministry of Tourism as a result of the 18th amendment in the Constitution, of Pakistan there is no entity in the Federal Government, which could take responsibility of looking after tourism affairs on a National level and implementing such National Policies related to tourism.
3. Unfortunately this National Tourism Policy 2010 Draft had never got this opportunity to bring it in parliament for discussion

As compared to previous policies, this draft policy was more comprehensive but it still lacked the necessary identification of stakeholders from all sectors of Pakistan.
6. This policy had efficient development strategy for tourism industry but it failed to address the proper plans for infrastructural development in the far-flung areas of Pakistan including prominent tourist destinations of Khyber Pakhtoon Khawa.
7. Pakistan is a developing country with 55% literacy rate according to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) 2016 report. In such a critical condition, the country needed strong and efficient awareness campaigns and workshops for the governmental officials and local people to bring forth the importance of tourism industry in Pakistan but this aspect is highly ignored in the policy draft.
8. There is not efficient allocation of resources at inter provincial as well as national level for the tourism industry. There is only minimal amount of GDP allocated for the tourism industry in Pakistan. This should be improved to invest more in this regard to make the situation better in the years to

This policy draft lacks in another aspect which is quite serious when it comes to the skilled workforce regarding tourism development in the country. There are no degree courses on tourism and hotel management offered by large universities of the country. This policy must have introduced a comprehensive plan to prepare Tourism Workforce for the better management of this industry.
11. Most of the people in Pakistan are uneducated especially if you go to other provinces than Punjab. Therefore the role of tourists guide is really important but unfortunately this is not a common practice in Pakistan. Most of the bus or taxi drivers are uneducated so language problem is a big issue for foreign tourists. The government could have allocated a special portion of policy for this purpose which is absent in this policy.
12. National Tourism Policy Draft 2010 must have incorporated the media and communications facet for the advertisement of Pakistan’s natural mesmerizing beauty via attractive clips being broadcasted on various platforms.
Opportunities:
1. Through the implementation of this policy, Pakistan’s economy can generate a large chunk of revenue by attracting foreign and domestic tourists which can help in alleviation of poverty at national level in a much considerable
