Sigmund Freud introduced the psychodynamic theory. Freud believed that the mind had three parts: the preconscious, conscious, and unconscious. He theorized that a part of the mind always remains hidden. Freud also believed that the unconscious mind was the most important determining factor in personality. Based on observations that Freud did, he believed that personality could be divided into three parts: the id, ego, and superego. The way the three parts of personality developed and interacted with one another became the heart of his theory. Present in the infant is the id.
