Nuclear energy plays an important in the medical field. Nuclear energy in medicine has been discovered more than 50 years ago and it has been widely-used ever since. The first use of nuclear energy in the medical field is for medical imaging which is a way of creating visual representation of what is going on in our body. Medical imaging began when Wilhem Rontgen discovered x-ray in 1895. However, at that time, the dangers of radiation was not known yet. Fast forward about 20 years later, contrast agents which are harmless to the body were used to visualize bile ducts, gall bladders and our digestive systems. By the 1950s, nuclear medicine was discovered. Radiopharmaceuticals were used as they accumulate in specific organs which allowed doctors …show more content…
There are uses of nuclear energy in medical field.There also advantages and disadvantages in the medical field too.The sample of advantages of nuclear in medical field is it offers additional treatment plans.This allowed the advancement of treatment options for patients suffering from serious illness such as cancer,by the way of radiation or chemotherapy.These treatment make the difference between life and death.The second advantage is it improves the methods for early detection.It provided with greater opportunities to detect serious medical conditions earlier.The third advantage is it is detailed and accurate.One significant advantage is the ability to make complex medical procedures simpler and safer for patients.With this technology,physicians and medical professionals are able to examine in great detail the most sensitive areas.All examinations can happen without subjecting patients to possibly dangerous and invasive procedures and surgeries.As much the advantages are,that much the disadvantages too.The advantage of using nuclear energy in medical field is it requires high cost to operate.With regards to the industry,purchasing,setting up,operating and maintaining some of the machines associated to nuclear medicine can be very costly.The second disadvantage is it comes with associated health risks.For those who have been exposed too much under treatment of nuclear medicine,certain health issues can arise with the highest risks occurring in elderly,pregnant and young patients.In some cases,this procedures has even made certain health issues even worse,so alternative treatment plans are being recommended.The thrid disadvantage is it does not offer a 100% guarantee .Though nuclear medicine has provided some of the best medical treatment options today,it still does not serve as a fool-proof system.After all,there has been no medical procedure promising a 100% guarantee,yet.Physicians and healthcare providers were delighted with the introduction of nuclear
