Out of four moisturizers being tested, which one works best to keep skin moist?
Introduction
The skin is what covers the human body. It is the largest organ and has many important functions. The skin has three layers: the epidermis, the dermis, and the subcutis or the subcutaneous layer. The epidermis is the outermost and the protective layer. It also creates our skin tone. The next layer is the dermis, which supports and strengthens the first layer. This layer holds large amounts of water, which is important in this experiment. The last layer is the subcutaneous layer which is the fat and it supplies nutrients to the other layers of skin. It also insulates the body. Because skin is so important to the body, it needs to be kept healthy. A problem with skin is that it can become very dry. This dryness …show more content…
As I was browsing, looking for a project to do, I stumbled upon this one where it would test to see which moisturizer works best for the skin. It was noticed that a variety of lotions weren’t doing their job to keep the skin soft and moist. This project was perfect to test it and even learn more about certain ingredients and the functions of the skin. I changed the experiment to better accommodate the time and the expenses that would take place.
Purpose
The purpose of this experiment is to test a small quantity of moistures with specific ingredients to identify which is most useful to keeping the skin moist and or healthy.
Hypothesis
I think that Vaseline with the ingredient, petroleum jelly, will be the moisturizer that works best to keep skin moist. It is the thickest moisturizer that is being tested and I believe it will work best to lock in the water. Using Jell-O as the skin, the moisturizer should help keep the water in and not evaporate.
Variables
The independent variable in this experiment is the four moisturizers.
The dependent variable is the Jell-O in the petri
